I'm surprised he didn't mention the fact that after 1991 the accepted definition of autism was broadened to include those with HFA or AS. In the past decade, diagnoses of the previously unrecognized conditions has skyrocketed and been lumped into autism statistics, making it seem as though autism rates are on the rise, when in reality that nerdy kid that talks about spiders more than most people can stomach just gained a new label. As long as it was given to him by a doctor, that is.
